Bishop CHARLES JOSEPH EUGENE DE MAZENOD - is our Patron

EUGENE DE MAZENOD was born in Aix-en-Provence, France, on August 1, 1782. He experienced the upheaval of the French Revolution, leading to a period of exile in Italy.

Essentially, Bishop de Mazenod was a visionary leader who responded to the needs of his time by founding the OMI congregation dedicated to serving the marginalized, empowering the poor through spiritual and academic. 

Call to Priesthood: Despite initial career uncertainty, he felt a strong calling to serve the Church, particularly those in need.

Founding the Oblates of Mary Immaculate – OMI : He gathered like-minded priests, emphasizing preaching in the vernacular, community life, and spiritual formation.

Leadership and Expansion: As a bishop and Superior General, he oversaw the expansion of the Oblates to various parts of the world, including Canada, the United States, and Africa. The OMI missionaries came to India in 1968. 

Pastoral and Educational Zeal: He dedicated himself to the spiritual well-being of his diocese, focusing on the education of the local regions, their formation, development, and the construction of significant religious sites. 

Legacy: Charity, zeal for souls, and the enduring impact of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
